About the Employer
Houston’s First Baptist Church, led by Pastor Gregg Matte, has four campuses in the greater Houston area — recently named the most diverse city in the United States (see here). The church also has three Faith Centers throughout the city where we conduct a wide variety of ongoing ministries to serve our community, as well as a separate Deaf Church.
Houston’s First has been described as a “full-service” church with a diverse assortment of programs and ministries. In addition to ministries serving all ages and stages of life, we also offer Legacy 68:5 (adoption, foster, and orphan care), Thru The Roof Special Needs ministry, a Single Parent Family ministry, the Julianna Poor Memorial Counseling Center (a fully-licensed counseling center), a Fitness & Recreation Center, and First Baptist Academy (early childhood-8th grade).
The “heartbeat” of Houston’s First has always been missions. In fact, we were founded in 1841 by ‘foreign’ missionaries from the United States who came to the then-sovereign republic of Texas. The church sponsors over 100 missionaries serving on the field around the globe, and we send out over two dozen short-term mission trips each year. In a typical pre-COVID year, we would have trips going to nearly 20 different nations on five of the seven continents.
